Introducing a new category: Adaptive Sensory Environment (ASE).

Mission

What is an ASE?:

A portable, neuroaffirming setup that enables in-the-moment regulation in the same space—so students stay with peers and staff time is preserved.

MinaLixr creates portable, adaptive, neuroaffirming sensory solutions that help neurodivergent people (and those who support them) build safe, supportive environments for regulation, learning, and independence.

The Problem

ASEs are portable, live inside learning spaces, and support in-the-moment regulation—not removal. They’re modular and adjust over time.

Many schools rely on dedicated sensory spaces to support regulation. These spaces are helpful—but they’re fixed-location and capacity-limited. When a student needs one, an adult typically guides a transition out of class and remains nearby, which uses staff time and interrupts learning continuity. Beyond schools, libraries and clinics rarely offer real-time, in-place supports. Communities benefit when portable, adaptive, neuroaffirming options are available inside everyday environments—so people can regulate without leaving the moment.

The Vision

We imagine a world where portable, adaptive sensory supports are standard in classrooms, clinics, libraries, and public spaces—so regulation can happen in the moment, participation is easier, and inclusion feels natural for everyone

Founder Story

How is an ASE different from a “calming room” or single-device tool?

  • Keeps learners in community (inclusion > isolation)

  • Builds self-regulation; grows with the individual

  • Reduces transitions; protects educator/para time

Founded by Nico Grossi, MinaLixr blends recreation-therapy based training with human-centered design to create portable, adaptive, neuroaffirming sensory supports. We co-design with educators, clinicians, and families; run small pilots to test usability and feasibility; and track practical outcomes (time-to-regulation, preserved staff time, participation). Our aim is simple: tools that work inside real classrooms and public spaces, reducing transitions and supporting inclusion in the moment.

Will this take staff time or be hard to use?

Pop-up deployment, no tools, and battery-first power makes in-room setup fast and repeatable!

+ Pop-up frame: no loose parts

+ One-button presets:

Calm • Focus • Reset

+ Battery first: cord-free by default; plug-in optional

Ready in about 2 minutes;

Does it actually work? Where’s the evidence?

We co-design with practitioners and track practical outcomes—time-to-regulation, preserved staff time, and participation—through small pilots.

+ Co-designed with educators, clinicians, families

+ Pilot first; iterate from real-world use

Built with data and lived experience.

Is this safe, appropriate, and inclusive
(not seclusion)?

Neuroaffirming and dignity-first.

Opt-in use, adult-visible placement, and trauma-informed guidelines. Cleanable materials and a small, ADA-friendly footprint. No cameras by default.

+ Consent-centered, open design (not isolation)

+ Clear use guide; aligns with inclusive practice
